From the Whidbey MarketPlace and South Whidbey Record:
Oasis for Animals, a no-kill humane rescue on Whidbey Island, has just received a grant of $2100 from The Washington Federation of Animal Care & Control Agencies ("The Federation").
The Federation awards grants to shelters to support spay/neuter programs. Funding is made available when people purchase "We Love Our Pets" License Plates.
These funds will allow Oasis for Animals to host events in cooperation with The Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project, to spay/neuter approximately 100 cats.
This grant money will be used specifically to assist pet owners to have their pet cats spayed/neutered, at very low cost.
Oasis for Animals wishes to thank everyone who has purchased "We Love Our Pets" License plates, and to encourage everyone to continue to support this program.
In a letter to Oasis for Animals, the Federation Board of Directors wrote, "We are delighted to support the important work you are doing."
"We are so pleased! This is great!" said Jean Favini, President of Oasis for Animals. "This year, because of an earlier benefit organized for Oasis, we have funds for our Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) program for the spay/neuter of feral cats. Now with this grant, we can also add events so people can have their own pet cats spayed or neutered."
Oasis for Animals spokeswoman Lynda McCormick said that four or five "spay day" events will be scheduled soon. "We invite people to frequently check our web site to learn about the spay day events and other opportunities to be involved with Oasis for Animals."
