From the South Whidbey Record:

The first "Spay Day" help by Oasis for Animals proved to be popular: A line of people formed early for the event at Ken's Korner and some of the animal owners showed up in their PJs.

Oasis for Animals held the event on June 29, and volunteers from the non-profit loaded pet cats into the Oasis van for a trip to Lynnwood for spay or neuter surgery.

"People have been so appreciative, even though the clinic starts very early," said Jean Favini.

Oasis received a grant to provide the important community service, in cooperation with the Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project. Oasis is an all-volunterr, no-kill rescue organization that places about 400 cats into loving homes each year. Prior to placement, the cats reside in foster homes.

More "Spay Day" events will be scheduled in the coming months, and the next "Spay Day" is planned for Monday, July 27. The surgery is performed at the Feral cat Spay/Neuter Project in Lynnwood. Oasis provides transportation for the cats to and from the clinic. Appointments are required, and the cost is $15.

"So many people signed up for our first 'Spay Day,' that we are already confirming appointments for July 27, said Lynda McCormick, an Oasis volunteer.

"Some people have included extra money," she added, "so we can help other cats, too. "We hope the community will support this effort with donations. As long as we have the funds to do it, we'll keep doing it to help people get their pet cats spayed or neuterd at low cost.

The Spay Day phone number is 206-422-2462. More details can also be found on the web site at www.oasisforanimals.org.
